10 Helpful Deer-Hunting Tips

 

  1. A sign of deer in the area is rubbings.  If you see rubs on trees, that's a pure sign of a mature buck.
  2. When picking a spot, try not to remove a lot of brush because it could be their cover or bedding and that could make them not want to come back to that spot.
  3. You can lean up against a tree to steady your aim.
  4. If you're passing by a barbed wire fence, look for deer hair stuck in the fence.  You can tell that deer have been passing in and out. 
  5. A foggy day can help control your scent because the air is heavy, not swirling.
  6. When calling on windy days or over long distances with a buck grunt use a tubed buck grunt.
  7. Decoys need the scent-killer treatment, too.
  8. You can learn a lot about deer by their droppings.
  9. A buck decoy postioned near a bedded doe decoy can somedtimes lure a passing buck into bow or gun range.
  10. If you can't find any deer signs, go towards the water.
